Behind the Name
The name Strumien comes from the Polish word for “stream.”
Inspired by founder Katy’s Polish heritage and her lifelong connection to the natural beauty of the Elora Gorge–where she spent countless afternoons playing fetch with her black lab in the stream beneath the bridge–it reflects both her personal story and her philosophy around finances.

Meet the Founder, Katy
Katy grew up in Elora, where conversations about business and finance were part of everyday life. A lifelong entrepreneur at heart, she was inspired early on to think about money not just as numbers, but as a tool to create opportunity and freedom.
This interest led her to study Business Management at Dalhousie University in Halifax, majoring in Environment, Sustainability, and Society. After graduating, Katy returned to Elora and built real-world experience in hospitality, banking, and commercial real estate, developing a well-rounded understanding of how businesses operate, grow, and succeed.
Her diverse experience gave her a strong foundation, but when the pandemic hit, the pause gave her clarity: it was the right moment to combine her financial background, entrepreneurial spirit, and passion for helping others. What began as a side hustle soon became her full-time business, and in May 2021, she launched KeepUp Bookkeeping. By August 2025, she had helped more than 60 businesses and 80 business owners confidently manage their finances and grow their ventures.
As her business grew, she recognized the need for financial education and accessibility beyond bookkeeping alone. Katy evolved her business into Strumien Financial, dedicated to helping both businesses and individuals achieve clarity, confidence, and peace of mind with their money. Her goal is simple: to empower clients with the tools and knowledge to achieve their financial objectives, while giving them the freedom to focus on building the life or business they envision.
As treasurer for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Centre Wellington, Katy demonstrates her commitment to giving back and building strong communities.
